MEET JOSEPH

OBJECTIVE
Participate in the development and implementation of safety, health and environment program in the current. Raise awareness and implementation across all business community. To lead consultancy in safety, health and environment program development and implementation.

EDUCATION

  • Diploma in Public Health Inspection(Environmental Health) – 1984 – 1987 -University of Swaziland
  • Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety -1989-1990– Aston University – United Kingdom
  • Bachelor of Science degree- Industrial safety and Environmental Management-(Major Occupational hygiene and Safety Management) 1994 – 1997- Ferris State University – Michigan – U.S.A

WORK EXPERIENCE
Ministry of Health, Occupational Health Unit – Senior Occupational Health and Safety Officer (1987 – 2000)

  • Responsible inspections of work place and recommend remedial measures to management.
  • Participate in National occupational Health and safety policy drafting
    Advice both private companies and government Department on development and establishment of safety and Health programmes
  • Conduct survey on occupational hazards eg noise and chemical fumes exposure
  • Represent government in technical committee on Safety and Health Standard drafting (Botswana Bureau of standards)
  • Conduct safety and Health awareness in government Institutions –Institute of Health Sciences.

Water Utilities Corporation – Senior Safety Officer (May 2001 to 2011)

  • Responsible for development and implementations of occupational and safety Program across Water Utilities Corporation operations in the Country.
  • Establish Occupational Health and safety program structure – Safety Health and Environmental structures (Executive Committee, Departmental Committees and Auditing Committee)
  • Developed and coordinated implementation of SHE policy and standards across water Utilities operations
  • Lead water Utilities to an internal audit in 2006 where they achieved 3 platinum stars SHE performance rating
  • Water Utilities Cooperation was awarded best SHE Improvement award in 2007 by NOSA South Africa
  • 2008 lead a committee to develop Water Utilities Corporation w health and wellness strategy which lead to Health wellness section which i was appointed it Head in 2010

Debswana Diamond Company, Jwaneng Mine – Safety and Health Coordinator (March 2011 to 2018 and transferred to Training Section February 2019)

  • Safety and Health Coordinator – responsible for coordinating implementations of Environmental management system standard ISO 14001 and Occupational Health and standard OHSAS 18001 in support services (Engineering Services, Health services, Supply chain, Security, Finance , Corporate Affairs and information management. 2011- 2015.
  • Participate in Jwaneng Mine SHE FILE development which becomes key tool guiding in the implementation of ISO 14001 and 0HSAS 18001.
  • 2016-2018 – transferred to Mining Operations as Safety & Health Coordinator responsible for safety and Health in Cut 8 project and also responsible for Mineral Resources Management. These areas have the following activities drilling, blasting loading , hauling , pit slope motoring. Debswana Contractors Site Rules auditing.
  • 2019 to date: Coordinating Jwaneng Mine training programme development and its implementation
  • Champion for Jwaneng Mine – Crisis Management plan and implementation and liaise with District Disaster Management Committee
  • Review – contractors SHE Management plans and workplace baseline risk assessments documents
  • Participate: in the development of SHE system procedures, policies and coordinate implementation
