The CBS Training Course is in design and scope the same as the SAFEoperator course. It is essentially the 'public' version of this course where employees from a range of companies and even industries may join together for training purposes. (The SAFEoperator course by contrast is tailored to suit specific clients' requirements)
The CBS Course is designed along the lines of the most recent technology in risk awareness training. It is based on the principle of Visual Image Stimulation, which targets the ability of the human mind to recognise specific patterns of images and alerts the person of imminent danger.
The traditional focus of risk awareness training is on “hazards”. The CBS course makes an important departure from that approach, namely to focus on behaviour. An accident has two components, namely a physical hazard and the dangerous behaviour of a person in the near vicinity of that hazard. It has been found in our research that the so-called lack of awareness of the person is only one aspect of the problem. There are many more behavioural issues, such as overlooking the risk, underestimating the risk, ignoring risks, intentionally taking risks, poor alertness as a result of the numbing effects of a work procedure, etc.
The CBS course trains a large variety of risk identification skills, not only the hazard recognition.
Training can be an exciting experience for the workers, or, as is often the case, a monotonous lecture by the training provider. We have followed the training designs of some of the best practitioners in the business by designing every step of the learning process around “experiential discovery”.
